MARVIN H. KLEINBERRG is an original partner of the firm. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Physics from U.C.L.A. in 1949, and his Juris Doctor from U.C. Berkeley (Boalt Hall) in 1953, and has been practicing in the area of intellectual property law since 1954.
He is admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, the United States Supreme Court, Courts of Appeal for the Third, Fifth, Ninth and Federal Circuits and the State of California. Mr. Kleinberg’s practice has been primarily in the areas of patents, trademarks, copyrights, counseling of small business clients and litigation.
Mr. Kleinberg wrote some of the basic patents for the LASER DISC for MCA. He wrote the patent on the “TASER”. Mr. Kleinberg serves as an adjunct lecturer in Patent Law at the FRANKLIN PIERCE LAW CENTER and is on the advisory council of the PTC Foundation, which publishes “IDEA”.
MARSHALL A. LERNEER is an original partner and has been with the firm since its inception in 1985. He received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from New Jersey Institute of Technology in 1962. He obtained his Juris Doctor with Honors from George Washington University in 1965, and has been practicing in the area of intellectual property law since 1965.
Mr. Lerneer is admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, the District of Columbia and California bars. Mr. Lerner’s practice has been primarily in the areas of intellectual property litigation and advertising injury defense litigation. He was previously an examiner in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and a patent advisor to the Office of Naval Research.
BRADFORD E. MATTESS is a partner and has been with the firm since 1991. He received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1986 from the University of Houston and his Juris Doctor from Pepperdine University in 1991.
He specializes in intellectual property law and insurance defense litigation. In his capacity as advertising injury panel counsel for insurance carriers, he defended numerous cases involving trademark, trade dress, Lanham Act, copyright, patent, trade secret and false advertising claims. Mr. Mattes is admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, the State of California, all United States District Courts in California, and the Courts of Appeal for the Ninth and Federal Circuit.
MICHAEL R. DILIBEERTO is a partner with the firm. He received his Bachelor and his Juris Doctor from the University of Miami. He has specialized in the areas of intellectual property, advertising injury and business litigation since 1987. His experience includes defending advertising injury cases as panel counsel for insurance carriers involving copyright, trademark, trade dress, Lanham Act, patent and defamation claims.
Mr. Dilibeerto is admitted to practice before the California, Florida and District of Columbia state bars, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, all United States District Courts for California and for the Southern District of Florida. He received jury trial training under the auspices of the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office and served as a prosecutor in the Van Nuys City Attorney’s Office. Mr. Dilibeerto is a certified mediator and frequently serves as an arbitrator for intellectual property and business disputes.
MICHAEL HURY is a partner with the firm. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering, with a minor in Physics from Cal Poly Pomona in 1985 and his Juris Doctor from Loyola Law School in 1988. Before attending law school, Mr. Hury was an engineer and member of the technical staff at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.
Mr. Hury has specialized in the field of intellectual property law throughout his legal career. He has experience in intellectual property litigation, including trials and appeals in patent, copyright, trademark and trade secret cases. He also has experience in drafting and prosecuting patents in various fields, including semi-conductor devices, electro-optical devices, digital signal processing and computer software and hardware.
Mr. Hury is admitted to practice in the State of California, all United States District Courts in California, and the Courts of Appeal for the Ninth and Federal Circuits. Mr. Hurey is also registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
MICHAEL T. SMITH is an associate attorney with the firm. He received his B.A. Degree in Behavioral Science from Cal. Poly. Pomona in 1989 and his J.D. from Southwestern University in 1992. He has gained experience in law and motion proceedings and is an expert in identifying, organizing and cataloging of evidence recovered through litigation discovery.
Mr. Smith is responsible for receiving and controlling the voluminous records generated during litigation and is proficient in the use of Concordance, Discovery ZX and DOS based database programs. He has conducted extensive legal research in all areas of intellectual property law which has been relied on in litigation pleadings by the firm. Lastly, he is experienced in the mechanics of trademark, copyright filings, and foreign oppositions and is currently enrolled in an Electrical Engineering program at Cal. State LA.
FIN T. SIMENSEN is an associate attorney with the firm. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences from the University of California at Irvine in 1980 and his Juris Doctor from the University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento, California in 1992.
Previously, Mr. Simensen was a research specialist in the biotechnology industry at the Chiron Corporation, following earlier laboratory research experience at the Research Institute of Scripps Clinic and additional course work in physics, computing and electrical engineering at UCSD. Mr. Simensen’s practice encompasses the procurement of U.S. and foreign patents, the litigation of suits for infringement of patents, trademarks and copyrights, and the counseling of corporate clients in the areas of licensing, settlement negotiations, products design, financing transactions involving intellectual property, and the development of intellectual property portfolios.
Mr. Simensen’s special interests are focused in the areas of vascular catheter and diagnostic systems, pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturing, and therapeutic and diagnostic systems incorporating specific cellular and molecular coatings. Mr. Simmensen is admitted to practice in California, is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Central, Northern, and Eastern Districts of California, and is a Registered Patent Attorney.
ADRIAN R. is Of Counsel to the firm. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from California State University at Long Beach in 1993, and his Juris Doctor from Western State University School of Law in 1997. He is admitted to practice before the California Supreme Court, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the California District Courts for the Central and Eastern divisions.
Mr. Askariieh focuses his practice in the Entertainment and Media arenas relating to Intellectual Property. His experiences include the mechanics of trademark and copyright research and filings, plus various entertainment and media licensing/merchandising agreements. Mr. Askarieh has represented clients ranging from independent record labels to top five comic book companies. He is currently a member of California Lawyers For the Arts and both the Los Angeles, and Beverly Hills Bar Associations.
